Our Farm at La Vergne La Vergne Cows

Each cow produces one calf per year. The heifer calves are lovingly named and  are reared as herd replacements  and eventually join the milking herd when they are aged between 2 years and 3 years old.

At La Vergne, The Marsh Family, Hilary & Andrew with their four daughters approach everything that they do with a real passion.

Including the care of their cows, who are lovingly cared for. Our attention to detail  rewards them with  rich , creamy milk which they turn into delicious cheeses. The La Vergne herd have about fifty predominately Montbelliard cows, who are beautiful and full of character.

The cows are fed a ration of  hay, maize silage, ground cereal, all of which is grown on the farm, extra feed is brought in to help balance their diet including, torteau de colza and minerals.

They are looked after very carefully and frequently checked to ensure that the care that they are given keeps them in optimal health.

The cows are milked twice per day in our clean modern milking parlour where the milk is filtered and then piped into the refrigerated bulk tank where the milk is cooled very quickly to 3C.

The modern technology and the expertise of both Andrew & Hilary ensure  that the milk we produce is of the highest quality and that our cows are happy and relaxed.

At La Vergne an intensive grazing policy is used, the cows are able to graze on rich limestone soil all the year around if the weather is permitting. When it becomes too cold or wet for them to go out to graze they are housed in an open sided building which is ideal for keeping them healthy.
